Job Overview
This position is within the Electric Shop, Maintenance and Repair Section of the Engineer Service at the Bath VA Medical Center in Bath, NY.
We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated High Voltage Electrician to join our dynamic team.
Responsibilities
- Works as a journeyman performing maintenance and repair, installation of high voltage, primary distribution switch gear, transformers, lines and auxiliary equipment, secondary distribution lines, controls, panels and equipment, nurses call systems, buzzer systems, fire alarm controls and systems, street lights and systems, several types of elevators, elevator equipment and systems, laboratory and radiology equipment, engineering shop equipment, kitchen equipment, boiler plant equipment, hospital equipment, canteen equipment and all other operating equipment;
- Performs maintenance, repair and modification of the high voltage primary distribution system which is 12,470 volts;
- Uses electrical safety equipment such as high voltage rubber gloves, hot sticks, and high voltage indicators;
- Changes high voltage fuses, changes transformer tap settings for proper voltage, secures connections, visual inspection, and cleans transformer compartments;
- Performs maintenance and repair on high voltage loop switches and is responsible for safe and proper switching procedures and operations;
- Inspects and maintains emergency generators throughout the medical center;
- Records and documents required operation and maintenance of emergency generators and associated equipment;
- Installs, maintains, and repairs the station cable television system and associated equipment;
- Interprets and applies electrical wiring diagrams, schematics, and as-built electrical drawings for electrical and electronic equipment and systems;
- Uses formulas basic to the trade to figure voltage, amperage, and resistance;
- Determines the size, type, and gauge of wiring, conduit fittings, relays, electrical and electronic controls, motor control equipment, electric panels, gauges and circuit breakers; and,
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Work Schedule: Monday through Friday, 8:00 am - 4:30 pm
Qualifications
- Proven experience as an electrician with a strong background in high voltage systems; commercial electrician experience is a plus.
- Hands-on experience reading blueprints, schematics, and technical diagrams for complex electrical installations.
- Proficiency with testing equipment such as ohmmeters and low voltage testers; familiarity with power tools and hand tools is essential.
- Experience working on construction sites or during renovation projects involving electrical upgrades or new installations.
- Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to diagnose issues quickly and accurately.
- Excellent communication skills for coordinating with team members across multiple disciplines.
Pay: $28.79 - $33.59 per hour
Expected hours: 40 per week
