Electrical Controls Engineer (Security/Detention Systems)
Location: Indianapolis, IN
Compensation: $75,000–$90,000 (exempt)

About the Role:
You will design, program, configure, procure, build, and install the components of fully integrated security/control systems for correctional facilities. Reporting to the Engineering Manager, you’ll take substantial ownership of assigned projects, from interpreting customer specifications through commissioning and turnover. This is an overtime-exempt position that involves frequent day travel with occasional overnights across the Midwest.
What You’ll Do:
- Work from customer specifications to design and develop security control systems.
- Program, integrate, and test PLC/HMI-based security electronics at correctional and commercial facilities.
- Lead and facilitate system commissioning/start-up, resolving issues to meet performance and compliance requirements.
- Serve as a professional point of contact for clients throughout the project lifecycle, providing clear, diplomatic communication.
- Own project functions with minimal supervision, maintaining positive budgets and schedules.
- Coordinate and supervise field technicians and temporary labor during build, installation, and start-up.
What You’ll Bring:
- Recent hands-on PLC programming and HMI development experience.
- Experience designing integrated systems.
- High school diploma and a 4-year technical engineering degree.
- Working knowledge of security electronics hardware (e.g., door locks, CCTV, access control, intercom systems) is beneficial.
- Valid driver’s license; ability to travel frequently by day with occasional overnight stays.
- Solid project management, problem-solving, and on-site troubleshooting skills; calm, professional client presence.
